Joan (pronounced Yo-ahn) Bischoff grew up in Wassenaar, The Netherlands, in the countryside surrounding The Hague. Joan originally pursued a career in medicine at the prestigious Leiden University. Shortly after that he moved to the USA, he continued his education and received an MBA specializing in International Marketing.

Fluent in English, French, Spanish and Dutch, Joan is equally at home in his native country and here on the East End. With an entrepreneurial spirit and a career record in international business, Joan has been able to hone his management style and abilities as a skilled negotiator.

Active in real estate consulting, investment & management, he founded his own real estate firm, Buyers Connections Realty. In 2009, Joan was appointed Town & Country's managing director of our North Fork and Shelter Island branches.

International - cross border - real estate transactions require specific skills: Joan has that specific experience and background needed for multinational transactions, coupled with a thorough understanding of the New York Real Estate Market and a great network of professionals in the various disciplines needed to successfully complete such international Real Estate deals.

He is also uniquely connected to the community and promotes tourism on the North Fork, serving as an officer of the North Fork Promotion Council, the umbrella organization of all chambers of commerce, the Greenport Business Improvement District, B&B associations, the Long Island Wine Council and the Arts in Southold Town among other groups. Active in the Netherlands' Club and the Orde van den Prince - both in NYC, Joan was recently elected President of the Volkspartij voor Vrijheid en Democratie US in addition to being a member of the Oyster Ponds Rod and Gun Club.

Joan can often be found at McCabe's Beach watching a sunset or enjoying a glass of local North Fork wine. However, he is never too busy to aide a colleague and offer assistance to a customer or client.

Joan is also a member of the following NYSAR (New York State Association of Realtors) committees: International Real Estate Committee, Multiple Listing Service Issues & Policies Committee, and Professional Standards Committee.

I was not surprised to hear that Joan Bischoff van Heemskerck and Nicholas Planamento had joined Town & Country Real Estate to run the North Fork offices.
